Under the River — A low-angle perspective stretches down the iconic wooden escalators of Antwerp’s Sint-Annatunnel, pulling the viewer into a vanishing point of symmetry, history, and light. The tunnel, built in the 1930s, retains its original Art Deco character—illuminated by fluorescent lights, lined with white tiles, and adorned with slanted black-and-white photographs that tilt like visual echoes.

Olivier Ceulemans transforms this utilitarian space into an urban cathedral. The warm tones of the wooden handrails contrast with the cool, sterile glow above, while human figures—passing, pausing, distracted—add scale and mood. This photo is both architectural study and social vignette: a tribute to hidden infrastructure and everyday wonder.
